Buying Korean bedding at Gukje Market
Choose the right size and fabric, ask about packing, and work out the full cost of taking a quilt home.
Start with your bed, not the display
Bring your mattress measurements in centimetres and a photo of the style you want. A quilt, a duvet cover and a mattress pad are different purchases: ask the seller to unfold the item and show exactly what is included.
- Compare the dimensions on the label rather than relying on “queen” or “king”.
- Check outer fabric, filling and washing instructions. Ask whether a displayed set includes pillowcases.
- Visit more than one seller with the same size and material in mind; a cheaper item may have different contents.
Find the bedding shops
Gukje Market has a bedding-shopping area within its network of lanes. Save a map pin for a shop you like and photograph its sign with permission before exploring further. Ask a market seller for “이불 가게” rather than assuming every household-goods stall stocks quilts.
Packing changes volume, not weight
Some sellers may offer compressed packing, as shown in the filmed visit. Confirm the service before paying. Ask for the packed dimensions and weight, then compare them with your airline allowance. Compression does not reduce baggage weight.
- Keep the receipt and washing label.
- Allow room for the purchase to expand after opening.
- If using a separate bag, confirm your airline’s piece limit as well as its weight limit.
Compare carrying it with shipping it
Overseas shipping is a shop-specific service, not a market-wide promise. Request the item price, packing fee, shipping quote, destination coverage, tracking and expected dispatch date in writing. Compare that total with extra baggage costs before choosing. No seller or current shipping tariff has been independently inspected by ShopBusan.
