The story
Why this place matters
Taejongdae occupies the southern end of Yeongdo, where forest paths meet a coast shaped by layers of Cretaceous rock. Sea caves, weathered cliffs and unusual formations make the landscape more than a conventional city viewpoint.
Visitors can walk the wooded circuit or use the Danubi sightseeing train to reach the observatory area more easily. The combination of forest, exposed coast and distant shipping traffic gives Taejongdae a character that is distinct from Busan’s urban beaches.
Fit it into your trip
Allow a half day if you want to walk rather than only use the train. It combines naturally with Huinnyeoul, but doing both involves slopes and a fair amount of time outdoors. Check the Danubi train closure and weather before travelling to the end of Yeongdo.
