The story
Why this place matters
Huinnyeoul sits above the sea on Yeongdo, where narrow lanes and small houses follow the edge of a steep coastal slope. The neighbourhood carries the memory of families who settled here during the years around the Korean War, long before it became one of Busan’s best-known cultural villages.
A community-led renewal that began in 2011 brought workshops, independent shops and cafés into older buildings without changing the compact shape of the village. The strongest part of a visit is the relationship between the lived-in alleys above and the Jeoryeong Coastal Trail below.
Fit it into your trip
Pair it with one other Yeongdo stop, such as Taejongdae or the National Maritime Museum. The village has steep lanes and many stairs, so it works better as a slow walk than a quick photo stop. Keep voices low and respect residents’ doorways.
